Philippians 4: 6Don't
worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer
up your prayers and requests to God. (CEV)
What Did Jesus Teach About Hope?
In His most famous prayer, Jesus asked for God's
Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Then
He told His followers to desire and seek God's kingdom and righteousness
above all else. We can stop worrying about food, drink, and clothing because
God knows that we need them. If we give top priority to what really matters,
then God will provide everything else that we need as a matter of course.
We must listen to Jesus and put our hope in Him. He has the words of life.
As human beings we fear death more than anything else. Naturally we hope
to
live forever.
People asked Jesus, "What must I do to inherit eternal
life?" Jesus told people,"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind" and
"Love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus gives us the only hope that fulfills
our deepest longings.
He also tells us to bring this wonderful hope of
eternal life to all people on the earth. God doesn't want a single little
one to be lost. The hope that Jesus brought into the world gives meaning
to all life and all nature. In order to give hope to all without prejudice
we must be sensitive to where people are coming from. We can center our
priorities on the word of God. God works in this world in marvelous ways
pouring out His blessings on all people. If we center our hearts on minds
on His promises and His presence, our hope will never let us down. We can
learn from adversity and from incidental failures. We can treat all the
events around us as sources of parables like Jesus did. God works constantly
in His world to give us hope for the future.
