Matthew 4: ¹⁸While Jesus was walking along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers. One was Simon, also known as Peter, and the other was Andrew. They were fishermen, and they were casting their net into the lake. ¹⁹Jesus said to them, "Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish." (CEV)

Mark 3: ¹⁴Then he chose twelve of them to be his apostles, so that they could be with him. He also wanted to send them out to preach. (CEV)

Mark 3: ³²The crowd that was sitting around Jesus told him, "Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside and want to see you." ³³Jesus asked, "Who is my mother and who are my brothers?" ³⁴Then He looked at the people sitting around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers ³⁵Anyone who obeys God is my brother or sister or mother.".(CEV)

Mark 6: ⁶Jesus taught in all the neighboring villages.⁷Then he called together his twelve apostles and sent them out two by two with power over evil spirits. ⁸He told them, "You may take along a walking stick. But don't carry food or a traveling bag or any money.⁹It's all right to wear sandals, but don't take along a change of clothes. ¹⁰When you are welcomed into a home, stay there until you leave that town.. (CEV)

Luke 10: ¹Later the LORD chose seventy-two other followers and sent them out two by two to every town and village where he was about to go. ²He said to them: A large crop is in the fields, but there are only a few workers. Ask the LORD in charge of the harvest to send out workers to bring it in.... ⁷Stay with the same family, eating and drinking whatever they give you, because workers are worth what they earn. Don't move around from house to house.. (CEV)

Acts 2: ⁴¹ On that day about three thousand believed his message and were baptized .... ⁴²They spent their time learning from the apostles, and they were like family to each other. They also broke bread and prayed together... ⁴⁴All the LORD'S followers often met together, and they shared everything they had. ⁴⁵They would sell their property and possessions and give the money to whoever needed it. ⁴⁶Day after day they met together in the temple. They broke bread together in different homes and shared their food happily and freely, ⁴⁷while praising God. Everyone liked them, and each day the LORD added to their group others who were being saved. (CEV)

1. What reasons did Jesus have for choosing ordinary fishermen and sinners to be His friends?
2. How did people feel about Jesus calling His followers "my brother or sister or mother"?
3. Why did the followers of Jesus sell their property and share everything with other followers?
4. When we meet together like these early followers did, how should we express our love?
5. Tell us what you imagine to be the way we will relate to each other in Heaven.
