Small Groups Help Us Show Compassion and Love
Ice-Breaker: Describe an example of compassion shown by one of your school teachers.

Luke 10: 27The man replied, "The Scriptures say, 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind.' They also say, 'Love your neighbors as much as you love yourself.' " 28Jesus said, "You have given the right answer. If you do this, you will have eternal life."....
30.... As a man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, robbers attacked him and grabbed everything he had. They beat him up and ran off, leaving him half dead....
33A man from Samaria then came traveling along that road. When he saw the man, he felt sorry for him 34and went over to him. He treated his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put him on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. 35The next morning he gave the innkeeper two silver coins and said, "Please take care of the man. If you spend more than this on him, I will pay you when I return." 36Then Jesus asked, "Which one of these three people was a real neighbor to the man who was beaten up by robbers?" 37The teacher answered, "The one who showed pity." Jesus said, "Go and do the same!" (CEV)
1. Why should we be ready to show compassion for the people we meet who are in trouble?
2. How can we always trust God to work for our good in both good times and bad times?

John 13: 34But I am giving you a new command. You must love each other, just as I have loved you. 35If you love each other, everyone will know that you are my disciples. (CEV)
3. Why does Jesus ask us to love others as we love ourselves and then also love as He does?

1 Corinthians 13: 2What if I could prophesy and understand all secrets and all knowledge? And what if I had faith that moved mountains? I would be nothing, unless I loved others. 3What if I gave away all that I owned and let myself be burned alive? I would gain nothing, unless I loved others. 4Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, or 5rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. 6Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. 7Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. 8Love never fails! (CEV)
4. What is there about love that causes all other good attitudes to flow from it?

Matthew 18: 21Peter came up to the Lord and asked, "How many times should I forgive someone who does something wrong to me? Is seven times enough?" 22Jesus answered:Not just seven times, but seventy-seven times! .... (Read 23-29) 23-35That is how my Father in heaven will treat you, if you don't forgive each of my followers with all your heart. (CEV)
5. Describe when someone near you forgave you more than once for the same thing.
