Celebrate Jesus' Birth And Celebrate Friendship
Ice-breaker: Tell us about a friendship that you have had for most of your life.

Matthew 2: 4Herod brought together the chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses and asked them, "Where will the Messiah be born?"  5They told him, "He will be born in Bethlehem, just as the prophet wrote, 6'Bethlehem in the land of Judea, you are very important among the towns of Judea. From your town will come a leader, who will be like a shepherd for my people Israel.' "
7Herod secretly called in the wise men.... 8He told them, "Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, let me know. I want to go and worship him too." 9The wise men listened to what the king said and then left. And the star they had seen in the east went on ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10They were thrilled and excited to see the star. 11When the men went into the house and saw the child with Mary, his mother, they knelt down and worshiped him. They took out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh and gave them to him. (CEV)
1. What makes you feel like giving something of great worth to Jesus, because He was born?

Matthew 11: 19But the Son of Man goes around eating and drinking, and you say, "That man eats and drinks too much! He is even a friend of tax collectors and sinners." Yet Wisdom is shown to be right by what it does. (CEV)
2. How did Jesus show wisdom in making friends with people who were religious outcasts ?

Romans 5: 10.... Yet something even greater than friendship is ours. Now that we are at peace with God, we will be saved by his Son's life. (CEV)
3. Why is the Living Jesus even more important than His friendship with us?

Romans 12: 16Be friendly with everyone. Don't be proud and feel that you are smarter than others. Make friends with ordinary people. (CEV)
Colossians 3: 13Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ has forgiven you. 14Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together. 15Each one of you is part of the body of Christ, and you were chosen to live together in peace. So let the peace that comes from Christ control your thoughts.... (CEV)
4. When we follow Jesus' example and make friends with everyone, what happens?

Ephesians 1: 18My prayer is that light will flood your hearts and that you will understand the hope that was given to you when God chose you. Then you will discover the glorious blessings that will be yours together with all of God's people. (CEV)
5. What are some of the glorious blessings that we share with all people in God's family?

1 Peter 1: 18You were rescued from the useless way of life that you learned from your ancestors. 19.... by the precious blood of Christ, that spotless and innocent lamb. (CEV)
6. Tell us about the things you had to start thinking and doing so your life would not be useless.
