Luke 2: 5Mary was engaged to Joseph and traveled with
him to Bethlehem.... 6and while they were there, 7she
gave birth to her first-born son. She dressed him in baby clothes and laid
him on a bed of hay, because there was no room for them in the inn. 8That
night in the fields near Bethlehem some shepherds were guarding their sheep.
9All
at once an angel came down to them from the Lord, and the brightness of
the LORD'S glory flashed around them. The shepherds were frightened. 10But
the angel said, "Don't be afraid! I have good news for you, which will
make everyone happy. 11This very day in King David's hometown
a Savior was born for you. He is Christ the Lord.
12You will
know who he is, because you will find him dressed in baby clothes and lying
on a bed of hay." (CEV)
1. What does it mean to you personally that Jesus came from
Heaven to live like we do?
Hebrews 2: 14We are people of flesh and blood. That
is why Jesus became one of us. He died to destroy the devil, who had power
over death. 15But he also died to rescue all of us who live
each day in fear of dying. (CEV))
2. How does Jesus actually rescue us and get rid of our human
fear of death?
1 Corinthians 15: 48Everyone on earth has a body like
the body of the one who was made from the dust of the earth. And everyone
in heaven has a body like the body of the one who came from heaven. 49Just
as we are like the one who was made out of earth, we will be like the one
who came from heaven.... 51I will explain a mystery to you.
Not every one of us will die, but we will all be changed. 52It
will happen suddenly .... At the sound of the last trumpet the dead will
be raised. We will all be changed, so that we will never die again....
54The
bodies we now have are weak and can die. But they will be changed into
bodies that are eternal. Then the Scriptures will come true, "Death has
lost the battle! .... 57But thank God for letting our
Lord Jesus Christ give us the victory! (CEV)
3. Why & how does it help us to know that God gives us a
body like Jesus' resurrection body?
John 3: 16God loved the people of this world so much
that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have
eternal life and never really die. 17God did not send his Son
into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them! 18No
one who has faith in God's Son will be condemned. But everyone who doesn't
have faith in him has already been condemned for not having faith in God's
only Son. (CEV)
4. When the Bible says that we will never really die, what does
that mean to you?
Ephesians 2: 8You were saved by faith in God, who
treats us much better than we deserve. This is God's gift to you, and not
anything you have done on your own. 9It isn't something you
have earned, so there is nothing you can brag about. (CEV)
5. What is important about the fact that eternal life is not
earned but is a free gift?
