Philippians 2: 5.... think the same way that Christ
Jesus thought: 6Christ was truly God. But he did not try to
remain equal with God. 7He gave up everything and became a slave,
when he became like one of us. 8Christ was humble. He obeyed
God and even died on a cross.
9Then God gave Christ the highest
place and honored his name above all others. 10So at the name
of Jesus everyone will bow down, those in heaven, on earth, and under the
earth. 11And to the glory of God the Father everyone will openly
agree, "Jesus Christ is Lord!" (CEV)
1. What are some of the things that Christ gave up to become
a slave and like us?
Mark 10: 43.... If you want to be great, you must
be the servant of all the others. 44And if you want to be first,
you must be everyone's slave. 45The Son of Man did not come
to be a slave master, but a slave who will give his life to rescue many
people. (CEV)
2. Why did Jesus become a slave and why does He expect us to
serve everyone just as He did?
Matthew 16: 25If you want to save your life, you will
destroy it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find it. 26What
will you gain, if you own the whole world but destroy yourself? What would
you give to get back your soul? (CEV)
3. How do we save our lives and everything important by being
willing to give up our lives?
James 1: 2My friends, be glad, even if you have a
lot of trouble. 3You know that you learn to endure by having
your faith tested. 4But you must learn to endure everything,
so that you will be completely mature and not lacking in anything. (CEV)
4. When we experience difficult troubles, how do this make us
completely mature?
Hebrews 4: 15Jesus understands every weakness of ours,
because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin! 16So
whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our
merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved kindness, and we
will find help. (CEV)
5. How do you find help when you take the time to think of God's
love and pray to Him?
John 3: 16God loved the people of this world so much
that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have
eternal life and never really die.(CEV)
6. Who are some people that we may overlook but God loves them
just as much as He does us?
2 Corinthians 5: 17Anyone who belongs to Christ is
a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new. 18God
has done it all! He sent Christ to make peace between himself and us, and
he has given us the work of making peace between himself and others. 19What
we mean is that God was in Christ, offering peace and forgiveness to the
people of this world. And he has given us the work of sharing his message
about peace.(CEV)
7. Describe how it is that God can actually turn someone into
a new person.
