How You Can Have A Heart That Pleases God - On Purpose
Ice-breaker: Describe how you were pleased and overjoyed at something your child did.

John 5: 30... I judge with fairness, because I obey him, and I don't just try to please myself.
Mark 12: 30You must love him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.' (CEV)

Luke 18: 9Jesus told a story to some people who thought they were better than others and who looked down on everyone else:... 13The tax collector stood off at a distance and did not think he was good enough even to look up toward heaven. He was so sorry for what he had done that he pounded his chest and prayed, "God, have pity on me! I am such a sinner." 14Then Jesus said, "When the two men went home, it was the tax collector and not the Pharisee who was pleasing to God. If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored." (CEV)
1. Who, like this tax collector, does the Bible commend for pleasing God?

Romans 14: 17... It is about pleasing God, about living in peace, and about true happiness. All this comes from the Holy Spirit. 18If you serve Christ in this way, you will please God and be respected by people. 19We should try to live at peace and help each other have a strong faith. (CEV)
2. What happens to us, if we really put Christ first in our hearts and want to please Him?

1 Corinthians 6: 19.... The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own. 20God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God.
3. Tell us how we can honor God with our lives and what this actually does to please Him?

Acts 13: 22.... God said.... "David the son of Jesse is the kind of person who pleases me most! He does everything I want him to do." (CEV)
4. How could David have a heart like God's, even though he did not live a perfect life?

Psalms 19: 14Let my words and my thoughts be pleasing to you, LORD, because you are my mighty rock and my protector. (CEV)
Psalms 56: 13You protected me from death and kept me from stumbling, so that I would please you and follow the light that leads to life. (CEV)
5. When danger and fear are constantly near, how do people who please God respond?

Ephesians 5: 9and make your light shine. Be good and honest and truthful, 10as you try to please the Lord.... 16These are evil times, so make every minute count.... 17Don't be stupid. Instead, find out what the Lord wants you to do. (CEV)

2 Timothy 4: 8So a crown will be given to me for pleasing the Lord. (CEV)
6. Why does God hold out such a wonderful promise for all of us, just as He did for Paul?
