Genesis 2: ² By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. ³ And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.(NIV)

Exodus 20: ⁸ Remember that the Sabbath Day belongs to me. ⁹ You have six days when you can do your work, ¹⁰ but the seventh day of each week belongs to me, your God. No one is to work on that day… (CEV)

Psalm 4: ⁴ …when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. (NIV)

Psalm 63: ⁶I think about you before I go to sleep, and my thoughts turn to you during the night. (CEV)

Psalm 119: ⁶²I get up in the middle of the night to thank you… (MSG)

Job 33: ¹⁴ For God does speak…¹⁵ In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds… (NIV)

Mark 6: ³¹Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." ³²So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. (NIV)

Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (NIV)

1. Why do you think God rested after He created the universe?

2. Does the Sabbath Day commandment apply to us? How?

3. How can we honor God by resting and sleeping?

4. Does God really speak to us at night and in our dreams?

5. Describe the "rest" that Jesus offers.

Reflective point: In our busy lifestyle, the Fourth Commandment is often the most overlooked - and yet it is the only commandment in which God directly demonstrated by example. Consider obeying God by seeking adequate rest in your life.
