Facing & Dealing with False Expectations in Marriage
Ice-Breaker: Describe one of the happiest days of your life.

If I'm Unhappy Single, Will Marriage Make Me Happy?
1 John 1: 3We are telling you what we have seen and heard, so that you may share in this life with us. And we share in it with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4We are writing to tell you these things, because this makes us truly happy. (CEV)
1 Timothy 6: 6And religion does make your life rich, by making you content with what you have. 7We didn't bring anything into this world, and we won't take anything with us when we leave. 8So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes. (CEV)
1. What do you suppose, should be our focus in life? .... especially in marriage?

If I'm Lonely Single, Will Marriage Fill My Loneliness?
John 10: 10.... I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest. (CEV)
Ephesians 5: 28.... a husband should love his wife as much as he loves himself. A husband who loves his wife shows that he loves himself. 29None of us hate our own bodies. We provide for them and take good care of them, just as Christ does for the church, 30because we are each part of his body. 31As the Scriptures say, "A man leaves his father and mother to get married, and he becomes like one person with his wife." (CEV)
2. In what ways has Christ shown His love for His church?

If I'm Broken Single, Will Marriage Heal My Brokenness?
Matthew 11: 28If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest.(CEV)
1 Corinthians 7: 28It isn't wrong to marry, even if you have never been married before. But those who marry will have a lot of trouble, and I want to protect you from that. (CEV)
3. What is one piece of advice you would offer a friend who is considering marriage?

Will Marriage Diffuse Our Spiritual Differences?
Luke 6: 31Treat others just as you want to be treated.... 41You can see the speck in your friend's eye. But you don't notice the log in your own eye. 42How can you say, "My friend, let me take the speck out of your eye," when you don't see the log in your own eye? You show-offs! First, get the log out of your own eye. Then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend's eye. (CEV)
1 Corinthians 11: 11As far as the Lord is concerned, men and women need each other. 12It is true that the first woman came from a man, but all other men have been given birth by women. Yet God is the one who created everything. (CEV)
4. When is it appropriate to ask another to remove the speck from their eye?
