Matthew 6: 33But more than anything else, put God's
work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours
as well. 34Don't worry about tomorrow. It will take care of
itself. You have enough to worry about today. (CEV)
1. What are some practical ways we can put God's work first?
Ephesians 5: 8You used to be like people living in
the dark, but now you are people of the light because you belong to the
Lord. So act like people of the light 9and make your light shine.
Be good and honest and truthful, 10as you try to please the
Lord.... 16These are evil times, so make every minute count.
(CEV)
2. Describe what it means to be people of the light. How does this
please the Lord?
Col 1: 10Then you will live a life that honors the
Lord, and you will always please him by doing good deeds. You will come
to know God even better. Titus 3:7Jesus treated us much
better than we deserve. He made us acceptable to God and gave us the hope
of eternal life. 8This message is certainly true. These teachings
are useful and helpful for everyone. I want you to insist that the people
follow them, so that all who have faith in God will be sure to do good
deeds. (CEV)
3. Why is it so important for us to do good deeds when we are already
forgiven?
2 Corinthians 1: 21And so God makes it possible for
you and us to stand firmly together with Christ. God is also the one who
chose us 22and put his Spirit in our hearts to show that we
belong only to him. Ephesians 1: 18My prayer is that
light will flood your hearts and that you will understand the hope that
was given to you when God chose you. (CEV)
4. If God's Spirit is in our hearts, why do we continue to struggle?
Mark 4: 24Listen carefully to what you hear! The way
you treat others will be the way you will be treated - and even worse.
Matthew 7: 12Treat others as you want them to treat you.
This is what the Law and the Prophets are all about. (CEV)
5. How does treating others this way relate to the Law and the Prophets?
Heb 12: 2We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads
us and makes our faith complete. He endured the shame of being nailed to
a cross, because he knew that later on he would be glad he did. Now he
is seated at the right side of God's throne! 3So keep your mind
on Jesus, who put up with many insults from sinners. Then you won't get
discouraged and give up. (CEV)
6. Describe how best to keep our minds on Jesus when we live in this
world.
Rom 8: 12My dear friends, we must not live to satisfy
our desires. 13If you do, you will die. But you will live, if
by the help of God's Spirit you say "No" to your desires. (CEV)
7. Do we always need the help of God's Spirit to just say "No"?
Explain.
