How Long Should I Keep On Praying?
IceBreaker: Tell about a joyous time when your prayers were answered.

Luke 18: 3.... a widow ... kept ... saying, "Make sure that I get fair treatment in court." 4.... Finally, [the judge] said to himself "Even though I don't fear God or care about people, 5I will help this widow because she keeps on bothering me. If I don't help her, she will wear me out."  6The Lord said: Think about what that crooked judge said. 7Won't God protect his chosen ones who pray to him day and night? Won't he be concerned for them? 8He will surely hurry and help them. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find on this earth anyone with faith? (CEV)
1. What happens when we persist in prayer?

Matthew 6: 6When you pray, go into a room alone and close the door. Pray to your Father in private. He knows what is done in private, and he will reward you. (CEV)
Luke 11: 9So I tell you to ask and you will receive, search and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you. (CEV)
Ephesians 6: 18Never stop praying, especially for others. Always pray by the power of the Spirit. Stay alert and keep praying for God's people. (CEV)
2. Why is finding time alone to pray important?

Romans 8: 24.... But if we already have what we hope for, there is no need to keep on hoping. 25However, we hope for something we have not yet seen, and we patiently wait for it.... (CEV)
26In certain ways we are weak, but the Spirit is here to help us. For example, when we don't know what to pray for, the Spirit prays for us in ways that cannot be put into words. (CEV)
3. Why should we invite the Holy Spirit to pray for us?

James 1: 3You know that you learn to endure by having your faith tested. 4But you must learn to endure everything, so that you will be completely mature and not lacking in anything. (CEV)
Psalms 37: 7Be patient and trust the LORD. (CEV)
Psalms 105: 4Trust the LORD and his mighty power. 5Remember his miracles and all his wonders and his fair decisions. (CEV)
4. How do we commit everything we have to the Lord?

Psalms 55: 22Our LORD, we belong to you. We tell you what worries us, and you won't let us fall. 1 Peter 5: 7God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him. (CEV)
5. How do we turn our worries over to God?

1 John 5: 13All of you have faith in the Son of God, and I have written to let you know that you have eternal life. 14We are certain that God will hear our prayers when we ask for what pleases him. 15And if we know that God listens when we pray, we are sure that our prayers have already been answered. (CEV)
6. How do we know if we are praying for what we want or for what God wants for us?
