Why Does God Allow Suffering?
IceBreaker: Looking back tell of a time when you could see the Lord working in your life.

1 Corinthians 13: 12Now all we can see of God is like a cloudy picture in a mirror. Later we will see him face to face. We don't know everything, but then we will, just as God completely understands us. James 1: 14We are tempted by our own desires that drag us off and trap us. 15Our desires make us sin, and when sin is finished with us, it leaves us dead. (CEV)
1. How can we be wise and avoid temptation.

Romans 8: 20Meanwhile, creation is confused, but not because it wants to be confused. God made it this way in the hope 21that creation would be set free from decay and would share in the glorious freedom of his children. 22We know that all creation is still groaning and is in pain, like a woman about to give birth. (CEV)
2. How can we be set free from decay?

Romans 5: 3.... We gladly suffer, because we know that suffering helps us to endure. 4And endurance builds character, which gives us a hope 5that will never disappoint us. (CEV)
3. Why is suffering so important to our spiritual maturity?

Hebrews 12: 10.... God corrects us for our own good, because he wants us to be holy, as he is. 11It is never fun to be corrected. In fact, at the time it is always painful. But if we learn to obey by being corrected, we will do right and live at peace. Rom 8: 28We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. (CEV)
4. Where will we have to be corrected if we try to obey?

Revelation 21: 4He will wipe all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death, suffering, crying, or pain. These things of the past are gone forever. (CEV)
5. Why don't more people "go for it"?

2 Corinthians 4: 17These little troubles are getting us ready for an eternal glory that will make all our troubles seem like nothing. 18Things that are seen don't last forever, but things that are not seen are eternal. That's why we keep our minds on the things that cannot be seen. Rom 8: 18I am sure that what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us. (CEV)
6. How can we keep our minds on things that cannot be seen?

John 16: 33I have told you this, so that you might have peace in your hearts because of me. While you are in the world, you will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world. 2 Peter 3:9The Lord isn't slow about keeping his promises, as some people think he is. In fact, God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost.
Psalms 34: 18The LORD is there to rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope. (CEV)
7. Why is it so important that "Love one another" is repeated so often in the Bible/
