Philippians 4: 4Delight yourself in the Lord! Yes,
find your joy in Him... 5Always be gentle with others and never
forget the nearness of your Lord. 6Don't worry
over anything, whatever. Tell God every detail of your needs in thankful
prayer. 7And the peace of God that surpasses will keep constant
guard over you hearts and minds as they rest in Christ Jesus. 8....
keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper.
Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.
1. Describe in your words what this peace is like. How do we guard
our minds?
Matthew 6: 33But more than anything else, put God's
work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as
well. 34Don't worry about tomorrow. It will take
care of itself. You have enough to worry about today. 1 Peter 5:7God
cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him. (CEV)
2. Can you think of any scriptures where the disciples worried in front
of Jesus? How did Jesus react to them?
James 4: 2You want something you don't have, and you
will do anything to get it. You will even kill! But you still cannot get
what you want, and you won't get it by fighting and arguing. You should
pray
for it.(CEV)
3. Why does God have us pray? Do we have any influence over His decisions?
Psalm 50: 14.... The only sacrifice I want is for
you to be thankful and to keep your word...... 23The sacrifice
that honors me is a thankful heart. 1 Thessalonians 5:18Whatever
happens, keep thanking God because of Jesus Christ. This
is what God wants you to do. (CEV)
4. How can we be thankful when times are tough?
Job 2: 8Then Job sat on the ash-heap to show his sorrow. And
while he was scraping his sores with a broken piece of pottery, 9his wife
asked, "Why do you still trust God? Why don't you curse him and die?" 10Job
replied, "Don't talk like a fool! If we accept blessings from God, we must
accept trouble as well." In all that happened, Job never once said anything
against God. (CEV)
5. What can we learn from Job's attitude or his wife's? Was it the
correct attitude?
Isaiah 55: 10"Rain and snow fall from the sky. But
they don't return without watering the earth that produces seeds to plant
and grain to eat. 11That's how it is with my words. They
don't return to me without doing everything I send them to do." (CEV)
6. What does this parable about rain & snow have to do with God's
word?
