1 Timothy 6: 18Let them do good, that they be rich
in good works, ready to give, willing to share, 19storing up
for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay
hold on eternal life.(NKJV)
1. What are some specific ways we can build this good foundation?
Deuteronomy 8: 17When you become successful, don't
say, " I'm rich, and I've earned it all myself." 18Instead,
remember that the LORD your God gives you the strength to make a living.
That's how he keeps the promise he made to your ancestors.
(CEV)
2. Why is this so important?
Luke 12: 16And he told them a parable, saying, "The
land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to
himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?'
18 And he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build
larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19
And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for
many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' 20 But God said to
him, Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you
have prepared, whose will they be?' 21 So is the one who lays
up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God."
(ESV)
3. How are you challenged by this passage?
Luke 16: 9My disciples, I tell you to use wicked wealth
to make friends for yourselves. Then when it is gone, you will be welcomed
into an eternal home. 10Anyone who can be trusted in little
matters can also be trusted in important matters. But anyone who is dishonest
in little matters will be dishonest in important matters. 11If
you cannot be trusted with this wicked wealth, who will trust you with
true wealth? 12And if you cannot be trusted with what belongs
to someone else, who will give you something that will be your own?(CEV)
4. What does this verse mean to you?
1 Corinthians 1: 4I always thank God for you because
of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5For in him you have
been enriched in every way--in all your speaking and in all your knowledge--
6because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you. 7Therefore
you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus
Christ to be revealed. 8He will keep you strong to the end,
so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9God,
who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
is faithful.(NIV)
