1 Timothy 4: 8For physical training is of some value,
but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present
life and the life to come. 9This is a trustworthy saying that
deserves full acceptance 10(and for this we labor and strive),
that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men,
and especially of those who believe. (NIV)
1. How do we train ourselves to be Godly?
1 Corinthians 11 The Lord's Supper 17In the
following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more
harm than good. 18In the first place, I hear that when you come
together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent
I believe it. 19No doubt there have to be differences among
you to show which of you have God's approval. (NIV)
2 Why does division or disagreement help unify a Church?
Romans 16: 15 Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and
his sister, and Olympas and all the saints with them. 16Greet
one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ send greetings.
17I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions
and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have
learned. Keep away from them. (NIV)
3 What can you do to make your Church better?
2 Corinthians 6: 1As God's fellow workers we urge
you not to receive God's grace in vain. 2For he says, "In the
time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you."
I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. (NIV)
4 What stumbling blocks are sometimes raised for new members of a Church?
1 Corinthians 5 11But now I am writing you that you
must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually
immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler.
With such a man do not even eat. 12What business is it of mine
to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God
will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you." (NIV)
5 How can you welcome sinners into the Church, yet expel the wicked?
