Matthew 6: 4....
Your Father knows what is done in secret, and he will reward you. 5When
you pray, don't be like those show-offs who love to stand up and pray in
the meeting places and on the street corners. They do this just to look
good. I can assure you that they already have their reward. 6When
you pray, go into a room alone and close the door. Pray to your Father
in private. He knows what is done in private, and he will reward you. 7When
you pray, don't talk on and on as people do who don't know God. They think
God likes to hear long prayers. 8Don't be like them. Your Father
knows what you need before you ask.... (CEV)
1. Why does God love to
have us, His children, talk with Him as our real Father in Heaven?
Luke
11: 9So I tell you to ask and you will receive, search and
you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you. 10Everyone
who asks will receive, everyone who searches will find, and the door will
be opened for everyone who knocks.
2. When can you find time
for being alone with God and thinking about His Message?
Mark
10: 17As Jesus was walking down a road, a man ran up to
him. He knelt down, and asked, "Good teacher, what can I do to have eternal
life?" .... 21Jesus looked closely at the man. He liked him
and said, "There's one thing you still need to do. Go sell everything you
own. Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then
come with me." 22When the man heard Jesus say this, he went
away gloomy and sad because he was very rich. 23Jesus looked
around and said to his disciples, "It's hard for rich people to get into
God's kingdom!"
3. How does being in a small
group of believers produce growth in your hidden life (Col 3:3)?
Luke
18: 8He will surely hurry and help them. But when the Son
of Man comes, will he find on this earth anyone with faith?
Hebrews 11: 6But
without faith no one can please God. We must believe that God is real and
that he rewards everyone who searches for him.
4. Tell us about your own
personal walk by faith with Christ.
Colossians
3: 1You have been raised to life with Christ. Now set your
heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God's right side. 2Think
about what is up there, not about what is here on earth. 3You
died, which means that your life is hidden with Christ, who sits beside
God. 4Christ gives meaning to your life, and when he appears,
you will also appear with him in glory....
15Each one of
you is part of the body of Christ, and you were chosen to live together
in peace. So let the peace that comes from Christ control your thoughts.
And be grateful. 16Let the message about Christ completely fill
your lives, while you use all your wisdom to teach and instruct each other. (CEV)
5. When you are involved
in relationships with people and with God, what happens?
Notes on the Discussion:
Philippians 4: 6Don't worry about anything,
but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and
requests to God. 7Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will
bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will
control the way you think and feel. (CEV)
