Matthew 4: 18While Jesus was walking along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers. One was Simon, also known as Peter, and the other was Andrew. They were fishermen, and they were casting their net into the lake. 19Jesus said to them, "Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish." 20Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him.
Mark 3: 14Then he chose twelve of them to be his apostles, so that they could be with him. He also wanted to send them out to preach. (CEV)
Mark 3: 31Jesus' mother and brothers came and stood outside. Then they sent someone with a message for him to come out to them. 32The crowd that was sitting around Jesus told him, "Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside and want to see you." 33Jesus asked, "Who is my mother and who are my brothers?" 34Then He looked at the people sitting around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers." (CEV)
Mark 6: 6Jesus taught in all the neighboring villages. 7Then he called together his twelve apostles and sent them out two by two with power over evil spirits. 8He told them, "You may take along a walking stick. But don't carry food or a traveling bag or any money. 9It's all right to wear sandals, but don't take along a change of clothes. 10When you are welcomed into a home, stay there until you leave that town. (CEV)
Luke 10: 1Later the LORD chose seventy-two other followers
and sent them out two by two to every town and village where he was about
to go. 2He said to them: A large crop is in the fields,
but there are only a few workers. Ask the LORD in charge of the harvest
to send out workers to bring it in....
7Stay with the same family, eating and drinking whatever
they give you, because workers are worth what they earn. Don't move around
from house to house.

Acts 2: 41 On that day about three thousand believed
his message and were baptized. 42They spent their
time learning from the apostles, and they were like family to each other.
They also broke bread and prayed together...
44All the LORD'S followers often met together, and they
shared everything they had. 45They would sell their property
and possessions and give the money to whoever needed it. 46Day
after day they met together in the temple. They broke bread together indifferent
homes and shared their food happily and freely, 47while praising
God. Everyone liked them, and each day the LORD added to their group others
who were being saved. (CEV)
Acts 4: 32The group of followers all felt the same way about everything. None of them claimed that their possessions were their own, and they shared everything they had with each other. 33In a powerful way the apostles told everyone that the LORD Jesus was now alive. God greatly blessed his followers, 34and no one went in need of anything. Everyone who owned land or houses would sell them and bring the money. (CEV)
1. What reasons did Jesus have for choosing ordinary fishermen to be
His first followers and later to be His leaders?
2. How did His close disciples feel about Jesus calling them and everyone
who obeyed God "His mother and brothers"?
3. Why did the followers of Jesus sell their property and share everything
with other followers of Jesus?
4. When we meet together like these early followers did, what causes
us to love each other with generosity?
