Book 1 - Chap 1 - How God Uses Groups:        grp004
What Are Our Possibilities With God's Help?
Ice-Breaker:  Describe what was just a possibility but it came true for you.

Exodus 4: 10Moses replied, "I have never been a good speaker. I wasn't one before you spoke to me, and I'm not one now. I am slow at speaking, and I can never think of what to say." 11But the LORD answered, "Who makes people able to speak or makes them deaf or unable to speak? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Don't you know that I am the one who does these things? 12Now go! When you speak, I will be with you and give you the words to say." 13Moses begged, "LORD, please send someone else to do it." 14The LORD became irritated with Moses and said: What about your brother Aaron, the Levite? I know he is a good speaker. He is already on his way here to visit you, and he will be happy to see you again. 15-16Aaron will speak to the people for you, and you will be like me, telling Aaron what to say. I will be with both of you as you speak, and I will tell each of you what to do. (CEV)

Jeremiah 1: 5""Jeremiah, I am your Creator, and before you were born, (CEV)

I chose you to speak for me to the nations." 6I replied, "I'm not a good speaker, LORD, and I'm too young." 7"Don't say you're too young," the LORD answered. "If I tell you to go and speak to someone, then go! And when I tell you what to say, don't leave out a word! 8I promise to be with you and keep you safe, so don't be afraid." (CEV)

James 5: 16If you have sinned, you should tell each other what you have done. Then you can pray for one another and be healed. The prayer of an innocent person is powerful, and it can help a lot. 17Elijah was just as human as we are, and for three and a half years his prayers kept the rain from falling. 18But when he did pray for rain, it fell from the skies and made the crops grow. 19My friends, if any followers have wandered away from the truth, you should try to lead them back. 20If you turn sinners from the wrong way, you will save them from death, and many of their sins will be forgiven. (CEV)

Acts 10: 25hen Peter arrived, Cornelius greeted him. Then he knelt at Peter's feet and started worshiping him. 26But Peter took hold of him and said, "Stand up! I am nothing more than a human." (CEV)

Acts 14: 13he temple of Zeus was near the entrance to the city. Its priest and the crowds wanted to offer a sacrifice to Barnabas and Paul. So the priest brought some bulls and flowers to the city gates. 14When the two apostles found out about this, they tore their clothes in horror and ran to the crowd, shouting: 15Why are you doing this? We are humans just like you. Please give up all this foolishness. Turn to the living God, who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in them. (CEV)

1 Timothy 1: 12I thank Christ Jesus our LORD. He has given me the strength for my work because he knew that he could trust me. 13I used to say terrible and insulting things about him, and I was cruel. But he had mercy on me because I didn't know what I was doing, and I had not yet put my faith in him. 14Christ Jesus our LORD was very kind to me. He has greatly blessed my life with faith and love just like his own. 15"Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." This saying is true, and it can be trusted. I was the worst sinner of all! 16But since I was worse than anyone else, God had mercy on me and let me be an example of the endless patience of Christ Jesus. He did this so that others would put their faith in Christ and have eternal life.

Small Groups Bring Out God's Possibilities
The use of small groups has proven to be one of the most effective ways to develop and build healthy long-term relationships. The quality and effectiveness of our relationships develop best in small intimate groups where possibilities can be shared and worked on.
How do we get small groups up and operating? In many churches small groups have become the basic building-blocks for constantly bringing new people into a living relationship with Christ as well as with each other. Churches all over the world using small "cell-groups" have grown explosively into large communities. They organize their church life around small groups to better accomplish God's priorities.

1. What is unique about small groups?
They emphasize your current and potential strengths and spiritual gifts.
They identify your weaknesses and strengths to determine:
--What additional strengths do you need
--What is needed to further develop your existing strengths
--That forgiveness is made real with intimate and loving support.
Spiritual gifts and strengths enable individuals to develop the best relationships in the group, in the family, on the job, or with all your social contacts.

2. What results do small groups produce?
Greater empowerment and renewal of people to be truly proactive.
Greater enhancement of individual responsibility and growth in spiritual maturity.
Greater service to others in the group.
Reduction in destructive thinking; replacement of fear with love and confidence.
Improved team spirit; new appreciation for the intimate "family" climate.
Constant focus on and guidance from the group's vision and mission.
Constant discovery of new possibilities fed by their dreams.

3. What other things do small groups accomplish?
Discoveries are integrated with the group's basic philosophy and God's will.
There is a high degree of interpersonal discussion, interaction and intimacy.
Leadership develops spontaneously and effectively.
Facilitators and members learn to be tough-minded and tenderhearted.
Just discovering possibilities for new and better relationships is inspiring.

4. Reaching out to those who don't really know Jesus:
Relatives, friends, fellow workers, neighbors may be willing to visit a small group.
Churches worldwide are finding this an effective way to convert people to Jesus.
Those of us who have tried small groups have seen people come to know Jesus.
Jesus Himself formed a small group to accomplish His work on earth.
In Acts the Christians met and ate in groups daily and went from house to house.
