Matthew 13: 10Jesus' disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you use nothing but stories when you speak to the people?" 11 Jesus answered: I have explained the secrets about the kingdom of heaven to you, but not to others. 12Everyone who has something will be given more. But people who don't have anything will lose even what little they have. 13I use stories when I speak to them because when they look, they cannot see, and when they listen, they cannot hear or understand. 14So God's promise came true, just as the prophet Isaiah had said, "These people will listen and listen, but never understand. They will look and look, but never see. 15All of them have stubborn minds! Their ears are stopped up, and their eyes are covered. They cannot see or hear or understand. If they could, they would turn to me, and I would heal them." (CEV)
Matthew 25: 20The servant who had been given five thousand coins brought them in with the five thousand that he had earned. He said, "Sir, you gave me five thousand coins, and I have earned five thousand more." 21"Wonderful!" his master replied. "You area good and faithful servant. I left you in charge of only a little, but now I will put you in charge of much more. Come and share in my happiness!".. .24The servant who had been given one thousand coins then came in and said, "Sir, I know that you are hard to get along with. You harvest what you don't plant and gather crops where you haven't scattered seed. 25I was frightened and went out and hid your money in the ground. Here is every single coin!" 26The master of the servant told him, "You are lazy and good-for-nothing! You know that I harvest what I don't plant and gather crops where I haven't scattered seed. 27You could have at least put my money in the bank, so that I could have earned interest on it." 28Then the master said, "Now your money will be taken away and given to the servant with ten thousand coins! 29Everyonewho has something will be given more, and they will have more than enough.But everything will be taken from those who don't have anything. 30You are a worthless servant, and you will be thrown out into the dark where people will cry and grit their teeth in pain." (CEV)
Colossians 3: 1 You have been raised to life with
Christ. Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at
God's right side. 2Think about what is up there, not about what
is here on earth. 3You died, which means that your life is hidden
with Christ, who sits beside God. 4Christ gives meaning to your
life, and when he appears, you will also appear with him in glory....
10Each of you is now a new person.You
are becoming more and more like your Creator, and you will understand him
better. 11It doesn't matter if you are a Greek or a Jew,or if
you are circumcised or not. You may even be a barbarian or a Scythian,and
you may be a slave or a free person. Yet Christ is all that matters, and
he lives in all of us. 12God loves you and has chosen you as
his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient.13
Put up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as
Christ has forgiven you. 14Love is more important than anything
else. It is what ties everything completely together....
16Let the message about Christ
completely fill your lives, while you use all your wisdom to teach and
instruct each other.
1. What makes us a new person so that we understand our Creator better?
2. How did the foolish servant cause his master to say, "You are lazy
and good-for-nothing!"
3. Why is it that many people can't understand what God want them to
believe and to do with other people?
4. When we let the message about Christ completely fill our lives what
happens in our relationships?
