Psalm 19: 1The heavens keep telling the wonders of God, and the skies declare what he has done. 2Each day informs the following day; each night announces to the next. 3They don't speak a word, and there is never the sound of a voice. 4Yet their message reaches all the earth and it travels around the world. Jeremiah 2: 3...I was never unfair to your ancestors, but they left me and became worthless by following worthless idols... 8The priests who teach my laws don't care to know me; your leaders rebel against me; your prophets give messages from Baal and worship false gods... 10...Just ask anyone, anywhere, from the eastern deserts to the islands in the west. 11You will find that no nation has ever abandoned its gods even though they were false. I am the true and glorious God, but you have rejected me to worship idols. 12Tell the heavens to tremble with fear! 13...you have rejected me, the source of life-giving water, and you've tried to collect water in cracked and leaking pits dug in the ground... 17It's all your own fault! You stopped following me, the Lord your God... (CEV)
Jeremiah 10: 2Don't follow the customs of those nations who become frightened when they see something strange happen in the sky. 3Their religion is worthless! They chop down a tree, carve the wood into an idol, 4cover it with silver and gold, and then nail it down so it won't fall over. 5An idol is no better than a scarecrow. It can't speak, and it has to be carried, because it can't walk. Why worship an idol that can't help or harm you? 6Our Lord, great and powerful, you alone are God. 7You are King of the nations. Everyone should worship you. No human anywhere on earth is wiser than you. 8Idols are worthless and anyone who worships them is a fool! ... 10You, Lord, are the only true and living God. You will rule for all time... 11You told me to say that idols did not create the heavens and the earth, and that you, the Lord, will destroy every idol. 12With your wisdom and power you created the earth and spread out the heavens... 15Idols are merely a joke, and when the time is right, they will be destroyed. 16But you, Israel's God, created all things... Romans 1: 18From heaven God shows how angry he is with all the wicked and evil things that sinful people do to crush the truth. 19They know everything that can be known about God, because God has shown it to them. 20God's eternal power and character cannot be seen. But from the beginning of creation, God has shown it all to them. That's why those people don't have any excuse. 21They know God, but they don't honor him or even thank him. Their thoughts are useless, and their stupid minds are in the dark. 22They claim to be wise, but they are fools. (CEV)
1. Why can nothing complex come from chance (mutation) and destruction
(selection)?
2. Why does something wonderful always requires intelligent design,
power, and control?
3. What causes highly intelligent people to believe in materialism
as our creator?
4. How can we learn from each other to trust God and Jesus even if
we are ridiculed?
