Book 1 - Chap 3 - Applying God's Wonderful News in Small Groups:     grp043
What Attitudes Please God the Most?
Ice Breaker: What attitude did you really work hard on when you were growing up?

Ephesians 5: 9...make your light shine. Be good and honest and truthful, 10as you try to please the Lord. (CEV) [10...find out what pleases the Lord. (NIV)]

Psalm 50: 14...The only sacrifice I want is for you to be thankful and to keep your word... 23The sacrifice that honors me is a thankful heart. (CEV)

Jer 7: 5...Be fair and honest with each other. 6Stop taking advantage of foreigners, orphans, and widows. Don't kill innocent people. And stop worshiping other gods. (CEV)

Jer 9: 23The LORD says: "Don't brag about your wisdom or strength or wealth. 24If you feel you must brag, then have enough sense to brag about worshiping me, the Lord. What I like best is showing kindness, justice, and mercy for everyone on earth. (CEV)

John 15: 1...I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts away every branch of mine that doesn't produce fruit. But he trims clean every branch that does produce fruit, so that it will produce even more fruit...
7Stay joined to me and let my teachings become part of you. Then you can pray for whatever you want, and your prayer will be answered. 8When you become fruitful disciples of mine, my Father will be honored. (CEV)

Galatians 5: 22God's Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, 23gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways... 25God's Spirit has given us life, and so we should follow the Spirit. (CEV)

James 3: 13Are there any of you wise or sensible? Then show it by living right and by being humble and wise in everything you do..... 17But the wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere. 18When peacemakers plant seeds or peace, they will harvest justice. (CEV)

1 Corinthians 13: 4Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, 5or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that other do. 6Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. 7Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. (CEV)

Matthew 12: 7Don't you know what the Scriptures mean when they say, "I want you to be merciful to others?" (CEV)

1. Why is God more pleased with how we love others rather than how we worship?
2. What would be wrong with spending all our time bearing spiritual fruit for God?
3. What made God so angry at the Jewish people and Jesus so angry at the Pharisees?
4. How can a small friendly group help us learn what attitudes actually please Jesus?
