Book 1 - Chap 3 - Applying God's Wonderful News in Small Groups:              gp056
Serving God with Your Gifts and Strengths.
Ice-breaker: What did you really enjoy doing as a young person to be a team player?

Philippians 2: 3Don't be jealous or proud, but be humble and consider others more important than yourselves. 4Care about them as much as you care about yourselves 5and think the same way that Christ Jesus thought: 6Christ was truly God. But he did not try to remain equal with God. 7He gave up everything and became a slave, when he became like one of us. 8Christ was humble. He obeyed God and even died on a cross. (CEV)

1 Peter 2:  5 And now you are living stones that are being used to build a spiritual house. You are also a group of holy priests, and with the help of Jesus Christ you will offer sacrifices that please God. 6It is just as God says in the Scriptures, "Look! I am placing in Zion a choice and precious cornerstone. No one who has faith in that one will be disappointed." 7You are followers of the LORD, and that stone is precious to you. But it isn't precious to those who refuse to follow him. They are the builders who tossed aside the stone that turned out to be the most important one of all. 8They disobeyed the message and stumbled and fell over that stone, because they were doomed. 9But you are God's chosen and special people. You are a group of royal priests and a holy nation. God has brought you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Now you must tell all the wonderful things that he has done. (CEV)

Hebrews 4: 16So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. There we will be treated with undeserved kindness, and we will find help. (CEV)

1 Peter 4: 10Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well. (CEV)

1 Corinthians 12:  7The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving others. (CEV)

1 Corinthians 13: 4Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, 5or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that other do. 6Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. 7Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. (CEV)

1. How does Jesus show us what to do as we learn to use His gifts?
2. Why is the Spirit necessary as our guide for showing how to love each other?
3. How does the Spirit help us develop our spiritual strengths (both general and special)?
4. Tell the group how you have been encouraged to grow more mature when we meet together.
