Matthew 6: 19Don't store up treasures on earth! Moths and rust can destroy them, and thieves can break in and steal them. 20Instead, store up your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy them, and thieves cannot break in and steal them. 21Your heart will always be where your treasure is.... 24You cannot be the slave of two masters! You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than the other. You cannot serve both God and money. (CEV)
Galatians 6: 7...You will harvest what you plant. 8If you follow your selfish desires, you will harvest destruction, but if you follow the Spirit, you will harvest eternal life. 9Don't get tired of helping others. You will be rewarded when the time is right, if you don't give up. 10We should help people whenever we can, especially if they are followers of the LORD. (CEV)
Philippians 4: 4Always be glad because of the LORD!
I will say it again: Be glad. 5Always be gentle with others.
The LORD will soon be here. 6Don't worry about anything, but
pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests
to God. 7Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will
bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace
will control the way you think and feel ...(CEV)
11I am not complaining about having too little. I have learned
to be satisfied with whatever I have. 12I know what it is to
be poor or to have plenty, and I have lived under all kinds of conditions.
I know what it means to be full or to be hungry, to have too much or too
little. 13Christ gives me the strength to face anything. (CEV)
Hebrews 13: 5Don't fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have. The LORD has promised that he will not leave us or desert us. (CEV)
1 Timothy 6: 7We didn't bring anything into this world, and we won't take anything with us when we leave. 8So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes. 9People who want to be rich fall into all sorts of temptations and traps. They are caught by foolish and harmful desires that drag them down and destroy them. 10The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much that they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain. (CEV)
1. Since God created everything and plans to give us everything we need,
why does that help us be content?
2. Why is it wrong for us for us to love money and possessions?
3. What happens when we love others so much that we actually give ourselves
and our possessions away?
4. How does open discussion in a group meeting help us to correct our
own false attachments and ideas?
