Matthew 3: ¹⁵Jesus answered, "For now this is howitshould be, because we must do all that God wants us to do....¹⁷Thena voice from heaven said, "This is my own dear Son, and I am pleasedwithhim." (CEV)

Matthew 4: ⁴Jesus answered, "The Scriptures say: 'No one can live only on food. People need every word that God has spoken.'"... ¹⁰Jesus answered, "Go away Satan! The Scriptures say: 'Worshipthe LORD your God and serve only him.' " (CEV)

Matthew 5 ⁵God blesses those people who are humble.The earth will belong to them! ⁶God blesses those people whowant to obey him more than to eat or drink. They will be given what theywant! .... ¹²Be happy and excited! You will have a great rewardin heaven. People did these same things to the prophets who lived longago.... ¹⁶ Make your light shine, so that others will see thegood that you do and will praise your Father in heaven. (CEV)

Matthew 6: ³When you give to the poor, don't let anyone know about it. ⁴Then your gift will be given in secret. YourFather knows what is done in secret, and he will reward you....
    ³³But more than anything else, put God'swork first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours aswell. (CEV)

Matthew 9: ¹³Go and learn what the Scriptures meanwhen they say, 'Instead of offering sacrifices to me, I want you to bemerciful to others.' I didn't come to invite good people to be my followers.I came to invite sinners."  (CEV)

Matthew 13: ⁵²So he told them, "Every student of the Scriptures who becomes a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like someone who brings out new and old treasures from the storeroom." (CEV)

Matthew 15: ⁸"All of you praise me with your words,but you never really think about me. ⁹It is useless for youto worship me, when you teach rules made up by humans." (CEV)

Romans 12: ¹² Dear friends, God is good. So I begyou to offer your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing.That's the most sensible way to serve God ²Don't be like thepeople of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you willknow how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him. (CEV)
