Let Us Develop Genuine and Loving Relationships
IceBreaker:Tell us what your favorite proverb or witty saying is.

Matthew 5: 46If you love only those people who love you, will God reward you for that? Even tax collectors love their friends. 47If you greet only your friends, what's so great about that? Don't even unbelievers do that? (CEV)
John 13: 34But I am giving you a new command. You must love each other, just as I have loved you. (CEV)
1. When Jesus told the above type of love to Peter, how do you think he felt? See verse 38.

Proverbs 18: 24Some friends don't help, but a true friend is closer than your own family. (CEV)
Proverbs 27: 10Don't desert an old friend of your family or visit your relatives when you are in trouble. A friend nearby is better than relatives far away. (CEV)
2. What reveals true character? What kind of a friend or brother or sister are you?

Proverbs 14: 20You have no friends if you are poor, but you have lots of friends if you are rich.(CEV)Proverbs 19: 6Everyone tries to be friends of those who can help them. 7If you are poor, your own relatives reject you, and your friends are worse. When you really need them, they are not there. (CEV)
3. Where do you find security? Job, money, family, possessions? How does time affect these?

Proverbs 27: 6 Wounds from a friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. (NLT)
Proverbs 12: 26You are better off to do right, than to lose your way by doing wrong. (CEV)
4. How can we distinguish true friends?

Proverbs 27: 9The sweet smell of incense can make you feel good, but true friendship is better still. (CEV)Proverbs 22: 11GOD loves the pure-hearted and well-spoken; good leaders also delight in their friendship. (MSG)
5. What does the above type of friendship assume about human nature?

Proverbs 17: 9You will keep your friends if you forgive them, but you will lose your friends if you keep talking about what they did wrong. (CEV)
Proverbs 25: 17Don't visit your neighbors too often, or you will wear out your welcome. (NLT)
