Philippians 4: 6Don't worry about anything,
but pray about everything. With thankful hearts
offer up your prayers and requests to God. 7Then, because you
belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely
understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel. 8Finally,
my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly,
and proper. Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and
worthy of praise. (CEV)
1. Describe the peace that no one can understand.
1 John 4: 17If we truly love others and live as Christ
did in this world, we won't be worried about the day of judgment. 18A
real love for others will chase those worries away. The thought of being
punished is what makes us afraid. It shows that we have not really learned
to love. (CEV)
2. What are some ways that we can really learn to love as Christ did?
Matthew 6: 33But more than anything else, put God's
work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as
well. 34Don't worry about tomorrow. It will take
care of itself. You have enough to worry about today. (CEV)
1 Peter 5: 7God cares for you, so turn all your worries
over to him.
3. How does planning fit into this concept?
1 John 5: 1If we believe that Jesus is truly Christ,
we are God's children. Everyone who loves the Father will also love his
children. 2If we love and obey God, we know that we will love
his children. 3We show our love for God by obeying his commandments,
and they are not hard to follow. 4Every child of God can defeat
the world, and our faith is what gives us this victory. 5No
one can defeat the world without having faith in Jesus as the Son of God. (CEV)
4. What is your understanding of this victory?
Psalm 50: 23The sacrifice that honors me is a thankful
heart. (CEV)
1 Thessalonians 5: 18Whatever happens, keep
thanking God because of Jesus Christ. This is what God wants you
to do. (CEV)
Colossians 3: 17Whatever you say or do should be
done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks to God the Father
because of him. (CEV)
5. How does positive thinking relate to having a thankful heart?
Isaiah 55: 10"Rain and snow fall from the sky. But
they don't return without watering the earth that produces seeds to plant
and grain to eat. 11That's how it is with my words. They
don't return to me without doing everything I send them to do." (CEV)
6. Why is it difficult to believe this when we see how the world is?
