Luke 7: 47So I tell you that all her sins are forgiven,
and that is why she has shown great love. But anyone who has been forgiven
for only a little will show only a little love." 48Then Jesus
said to the woman, "Your sins are forgiven." 49Some other guests
started saying to one another, "Who is this who dares to forgive sins?"
Luke
23: 34-35Jesus said, "Father, forgive these people! They
don't know what they're doing." (CEV)
1. Why is Jesus so merciful, and who is this woman?
Romans 2: 13God accepts those who obey his Law, but
not those who simply hear it. 14Some people naturally obey the
Law's commands, even though they don't have the Law. 15This
proves that the conscience is like a law written in the human heart. And
it will show whether we are forgiven or condemned, 16when God
has Jesus Christ judge everyone's secret thoughts, just as my message says. (CEV)
2. How can we avoid sinning on a continuous basis?
Romans 11: 27This is what the Lord has promised to
do when he forgives their sins." ....
32All people have disobeyed God, and that's why he treats
them as prisoners. But he does this, so that he can have mercy on all of
them.... 33Who can measure the wealth and wisdom and knowledge
of God? Who can understand his decisions or explain what he does? (CEV)
3. Describe the role our wisdom plays in understanding how God feels
about sin.
2 Corinthians 2: 7When people sin, you should forgive
and comfort them, so they won't give up in despair. 8You should
make them sure of your love for them. 9I also wrote because
I wanted to test you and find out if you would follow my instructions.
10I
will forgive anyone you forgive. Yes, for your sake and with Christ as
my witness, I have forgiven whatever needed to be forgiven. (CEV)
4. What was Paul so grieved over and also the causes of his joy with
the Corinthians?
Colossians 3: 12God loves you and has chosen you as
his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient.
13Put
up with each other, and forgive anyone who does you wrong, just as Christ
has forgiven you. 14Love is more important than anything else.
It is what ties everything completely together. (CEV)
5. How are all our relationships built on and around Christ?
2 Peter 3: 9The Lord isn't slow about keeping his
promises, as some people think he is. In fact, God is patient, because
he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost.... 15Don't
forget that the Lord is patient because he wants people to be saved. This
is also what our dear friend Paul said when he wrote you with the wisdom
that God had given him. (CEV)
6. Why and how does Peter's respect for Paul's writings encourage his
readers to right living?
