Proverbs 20: 27Our inner thoughts are a lamp from
the LORD, and they search our hearts.
Psalm 139: 1You have looked deep into my heart, LORD,
and you know all about me. 2You know when I am resting or when
I am working, and from heaven you discover my thoughts. (CEV)
1. Why does God want to know our thoughts from Heaven?
Isaiah 43: 8Bring my people together. They have eyes
and ears, but they can't see or hear.
Matthew 13: 15All of them have stubborn minds! Their
ears are stopped up, and their eyes are covered. They cannot see or hear
or understand. If they could, they would turn to me, and I would heal them."
16But
God has blessed you, because your eyes can see and your ears can hear!
2. What can we do to clear away the blind thinking of others and ourselves?
Genesis 4: 6The LORD said to Cain: What's wrong with
you? Why do you have such an angry look on your face? 7If you
had done the right thing, you would be smiling. (CEV)
3. How can we explain God's reading of Cain's attitudes from his body
language?
Road Signs for Relationships
STOP: Proverbs 10: 19You will say the wrong thing
if you talk too much so be sensible and watch what you say. 20The
words of a good person are like pure silver, but the thoughts of an evil
person are almost worthless. (CEV)
4. Describe some ways you have discovered for saying the right thing
at the right time.
YIELD: James 1: 19My dear friends, you should be quick
to listen and slow to speak or to get angry. 20If you are angry,
you cannot do any of the good things that God wants done. (CEV)
5. How does God's advice help us to do good and think our way out of
anger?
ROAD CLOSED: Revelation 3: 20Listen! I am standing
and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will
come in and we will eat together. (CEV)
6. Describe how Christ helps us open up ourselves when our door is
closed.
CAUTION: Proverbs 17: 27It makes a lot of sense to
be a person of few words and to stay calm.
28Even fools seem
smart when they are quiet. Proverbs 18: 24Some friends
don't help, but a true friend is closer than your own family. (CEV)
7. Why are true friends closer than our own family and help us when
we need to be cautious?
GO: Proverbs 25: 11The right word at the right time
is like precious gold set in silver.
12Listening to good advice
is worth much more than jewelry made of gold. (CEV)
8. What do we learn from this on the power of the spoken word for good
advice and wisdom?
