Luke 24: 25Then Jesus asked the two disciples, "Why
can't you understand? How can you be so slow to believe all that the prophets
said? 26Didn't you know that the Messiah would have to suffer
before he was given his glory?" 27Jesus then explained everything
written about himself in the Scriptures, beginning with the Law of Moses
and the Books of the Prophets.... 30After Jesus sat down to
eat, he took some bread. He blessed it and broke it. Then he gave it to
them. 31At once they knew who he was, but he disappeared. 32They
said to each other, "When he talked with us along the road and explained
the Scriptures to us, didn't it warm our hearts?" (CEV)
1. How do you teach your children to appreciate what they have given
to them, mainly Christ?
Jeremiah 29: 11I will bless you with a future filled
with hope -- a future of success, not of suffering. Colossians 2:13You
were dead, because you were sinful and were not God's people. But God let
Christ make you alive, when he forgave all our sins.
14God wiped
out the charges that were against us for disobeying the Law of Moses. He
took them away and nailed them to the cross. 15There Christ
defeated all powers and forces. He let the whole world see them being led
away as prisoners when he celebrated his victory. (CEV)
2. What evil forces exist besides Satan? What did the people see being
led away?
Matthew 11: 25At that moment Jesus said My Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, I am grateful that you hid all this from wise
and educated people and showed it to ordinary people. 26Yes,
Father, that is what pleased you.... 28If you are tired from
carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. (CEV)
3. How can we depend on Christ to take care of every burden?
Hebrews 2: 14We are people of flesh and blood. That
is why Jesus became one of us. He died to destroy the devil, who had power
over death. 15But he also died to rescue all of us who live
each day in fear of dying. 1 Peter 1: 3Praise God, the
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from
death, he has given us new life and a hope that lives on. 4God
has something stored up for you in heaven, where it will never decay or
be ruined or disappear. 5You have faith in God, whose power
will protect you until the last day. Then he will save you, just as he
has always planned to do. (CEV)
4. What does God have stored up for you in Heaven?
Acts 2: 38Peter said, "Turn back to God! Be baptized
in the name of Jesus Christ, so that your sins will be forgiven. Then you
will be given the Holy Spirit. Romans 10: 8All who are
acceptable because of their faith simply say, "The message is as near as
your mouth or your heart." And this is the same message we preach about
faith. 9So you will be saved, if you honestly say, "Jesus is
Lord," and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from
death. 10God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe
this and tell it to others. (CEV)
5. From Peter's message to the crowd, how would you explore what it
means to be a Christian?
